It’s been a long strange trip, but our website has finally arrived at its final destination. After months of negotiation, we were able to buy the domain name downtoearth.com. For us, it’s a wonderful expression of the brand we’re trying to build in free dating. Our mission is to be a totally free dating site that has values and morals. We don’t want married people, users that are disrespectful to other users or people looking for one night stands. We want moral and ethical people looking for a safe place to meet. While our values are for the most part mainstream Christian, we aren’t limiting ourselves to those seeking a christian dating site. There’s a common thread of real, honest, ethical people that stand for what we’re doing.
My simple thought is that I want to create a site that I’d be proud for my daughter (or son) to use. That’s a very high bar.
We’re working on defining our tagline for now. We’ve been experimenting with 100% real people. 100% free to use. We might be able to do better, we might not. Here’s to the rest of the journey.

Your sites has been talked about over at Plentyoffish wordpress community.

Seems like the king of Free (Markus Ceo of POF) thinks match.com is wanting to battle and start a free vs paid internets dating war.
I hope your site doesn’t end up like another “engage.com” (which has been spending its startup vc for years and still not reached “critical mass”, or Okcupid.com which is also struggle even to pay its employees and staff, or datingdna.com which will probably never get off the ground..)
In these macroeconomical times the major theme is “law of diminishing returns” in everything that we do, and starting a dating site is certainly no exception. Comprehensive downscaling in all our activities, from farming to business to schooling to governance, will be the categorical imperative of the years ahead. It is in this social economical and geopolitical backdrop and within this kind of macro-economical environment that everything will “play out”..
I’ve signed up and from the looks of it you really need to grow the user base… There were only like 50 users in my area total and I live in one of the busiest metropolis in the US. I don’t think the “community” thing will work because like engage.com (which tried basically the same thing but with a different twist) you have to have a lively COMMUNITY in the first place! So its a catch 22 impossible to just “bootstrap” your site into existence the way you idealize it to be..
And why is there no, “who’s viewed me option”? The site is too basic, even interpals.net has more relationship functionality, you should think about including much more enhancements like a forum, (even eharmony now has a free forum called “advice”) a chatting room, woome type of instant video interactivity, app support for facebook, myspace, and downloadable apps for the iphone etc… (see datingdna.com), also Okcupid’s Quiver and Match.com’s FIVE A DAY autosuggestion matches feature, plus some kind of personality questionare matching based on Enneagram, MBTI, DISC, The Big , etc…
A site like THAT would be one your daughter son would be proud of.. As of currently your site looks the same like any cookie cutter http://www.whitelabeldating.com/ template fly by the night operation
Good idea and good luck in 2009/2010..
I am looking forward to exploring the site. I came upon it through a blog on wordpress. Interesting concept but just how do you make it free? I did post it to my facebook account so will have to test it out so I can people what I think.
